Couples Counseling

Relationship counseling

Our relationships with one another provide comfort, love, support, friendship, and happiness. However, any relationship, whether it is a friend or partner, can cause distress, unhappiness, and despair. The most common cause of relationship problems can include:

  • Lack of communication
  • Financial difficulties
  • Conflict
  • Lack of quality time spent together
  • Loss of compassion and passion
  • Poor problem-solving skills
  • Not having enough insight into your and your partner’s behaviors

The first time you meet Romina, she will implement a unique and specifically tailored treatment to suit your situation.

Romina uses a Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy known as PACT, developed by the brilliant mind and renowned therapist Stan Tatkin. This therapy is very different from the traditional forms of couples counseling. The PACT approach addresses attachment theory, neuroscience and affect regulation.

The core essence of PACT involves guiding you and your partner towards feeling secure in your relationship and showing you what you are doing to upset each other allowing you both to see far beyond the issues you thought were the cause of your problems.

We all want to feel loved, secure, and special to our partner. This approach will help you learn and create a securely attached relationship. It is important the couple know how to care for each other, respond to their partner’s distress, and attempt at closeness. Since closeness is so important in a relationship our responses are so automatic. We don’t realize just how much our behavior can affect our partners. Learning to recognize your automatic responses as well as your partners is so important in developing a more satisfying and connected relationship.

When we get too emotional it becomes very difficult to understand and empathize with our partner. Romina can help you manage those feelings so you and your partner can actually listen and understand each other. PACT is a type of therapy that can be used in whatever stage of the relationship you are in at the moment.

Here is what to expect in your first session
  • Discuss both of the issues you are struggling with at the moment
  • Learning new and effective communication techniques to understand each other.
  • Partake in exercises that will make you feel secure in your relationship.
  • Discussing early relationships and attachment.
  • Managing your daily interactions with one another, especially when conflict arises.

Please feel free to book an appointment at your earliest convenience.
